Happy end of the year!

2023 Q4 Newsletter scaled

From the Founder

I was invited to speak last week on the topic of “pain” to the San Francisco branch of Creative Mornings — their manifesto includes the perfect line that “a creative life requires bravery and action, honesty and hard work.” I shared my own story of nearly dying in childbirth, the stark facts of our healthcare system’s failures, and the successes of artists who have made a difference, all with the hope of bringing more creative energy to our healthcare world. In the room were so many people who had had their own painful healthcare experiences and were yet still full of energy for a future that is more caring, more human, more colorful, and more reasonable.

As we head into 2024, I feel incredibly lucky to be working in this field, with you, using creativity and imagination to build a healthier future. The winter solstice is this week, and the days will start getting longer and the nights shorter. It’s a reminder that things change all the time. Often when it seems the very darkest, there’s light on the way.

Thank you for being a light of hope in our healthcare system!

Artists Remaking Medicine books

The book has done well since launching in October! We feel so fortunate for the momentum as we close out the year. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!

  • Emily was invited to speak on “pain” at this month’s CreativeMornings SF meetup in the Swissnex space. Her speech explored the deep pain points in our healthcare system and challenged attendees to use their creative expertise to change the course of the U.S. healthcare system. Check out a CreativeMornings event in your area each month for a dose of inspiration.

  • Let’s connect! If you or someone you know is interested in our hosting a lunchtime chat, virtual book club, or creative workshop on this topic, we are happy to curate a session. Reach out to claudia@uncommonbold.com or vol2@procedurepress.com.
