From the Founder
There is such energy this time of year for learning new things, refreshing supplies, and setting big goals for the end of the year — which is, incredibly, now only 15 weeks away! Let us know if we can help with your communications, design, and marketing plans for the rest of 2023. I’ll be at the HLTH conference in Las Vegas October 8–11 to connect with clients and share the new book. If you will be there too, I’d love to connect.
Artists Remaking Medicine is continuing to build momentum ahead of the official publication date. We’ve shipped advanced review copies around the world and have started receiving lovely early reviews, including from author Sarah DiGregorio, Proto.Life Magazine, The Pueblo Chieftain, and Path to Recovery. Preorders have been exceeding our expectations — thank you! Special appreciation to Claudia Williams, who ordered copies for all her incredible The Other 80 podcast guests. We are moving back the publication date by just a couple weeks to October 15 to meet the demand. Stay tuned for an invitation to our book launch party in San Francisco that month!
Be sure to preorder your copy wherever books are sold. I can’t wait to share these stories with you!
Emily F. Peters
CEO @UncommonBold, Publisher @ProcedurePress
“We mistakenly often think of medicine as being a STEM subject that uses just one side of the brain. But in fact, many doctors are also gifted artists and have a background in humanities. So much of this discipline is more than a science, it’s an art form. Emily Peters has shown that when we engage both sides of the brain, the results are truly extraordinary.”
— Christina Farr, Health-tech principal investor, OMERS Ventures, and author of “Second Opinion.”
“Artists Remaking Medicine is a beautiful work of hope for a system that seems beyond hope for many. Health care transformers everywhere should take note and find solace in the seemingly small ideas that could have outsized impacts on the lives of doctors, nurses, and the people they treat.”
— Jane Metcalfe, founder and CEO of Proto.life, co-founder of Wired Magazine, and the former president and owner of TCHO Chocolate. Read the review here.
Brand Strategy in Action
- Intrepid Ascent has launched their new brand this month! We’re sharing some behind-the-scenes details about their initial research process, the fully hybrid brand workshop we led, our artist collaboration, the hidden symbolism in their colors and fonts, and why we’re so excited to support their work as a consulting partner helping communities coordinate to deliver equitable whole person health.
- This month we teamed with our colleagues Atomic Health to develop and refine content for the DNAnexus website rebrand. We love when we get an opportunity to collaborate with our colleagues and friends to help a great client succeed.
- Elation Health announced their partnership with Suvida Healthcare this month! This partnership will help expand Suvida’s mission to deliver high-quality, culturally competent care to Medicare-eligible Hispanic adults. Read more on MedCityNews.
“Suvida’s chief medical officer said Elation beat out the competition due to its focus on both primary care and value-based care. Additionally, the platform’s interoperability and robust open API access allows Suvida to leverage data easily, which can create a more efficient experience for both clinicians and patients.”
— Ana Fuentevilla, Chief Medical Officer, Suvida Healthcare
- Thank you to all of our clients supporting healthcare communities in Lahaina, Maui, after the devastating fire. Elation Health and CHG Healthcare are two of our clients who have made an extra effort to help the community there with donations, including waiving fees for impacted medical practices.

- Have you ever been to an earthquake party? Emily has been throwing her annual party for the anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake as a fun and delicious way to make sure friends and family are prepared for the next “big one,” and to celebrate the city that they call home. This year, Emily and her family threw their party a bit early and invited Astrid Kane of The San Francisco Standard to join.
