About the art
Una Di Gallo is the latest artist selected by Uncommon Bold to illustrate our mission of remaking medicine. Based in Toronto, Una is an award-winning animator and illustrator who has developed several film and zine projects. In 2019, she created BOY, an experimental cowboy western during a micro-residency at the Toronto Animated Image Society.
Joanne Lam led us through this branding project as creative director, bringing our values to life. She was instrumental in everything from introducing us to Una all the way through to building out our website. Joanne and Una had previously collaborated on A Portrait of Tracy, an experimental short documentary co-produced by the National Film Board of Canada and American Documentary’s interactive division, POV Spark.
For this suite of illustrations developed with our team in 2021, Una said:
“Using architectural elements integrated with a variety of medical cues, my goal was to illustrate a series of public spaces where diverse communities come together to build and participate in a better future for medicine. I included characters of a variety of ages, abilities, and bodies and to drive a collaborative spirit.”
Thank you to this powerhouse duo of Canadian women creatives!
